Following weight reduction surgery, or any substantial weight loss, the skin and tissues often lack elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size. As a result, skin that has been previously stretched is loose and unsupported. Buttocks, groin and thighs can sag and cause hanging pockets of skin. This procedure reshapes the thighs by reducing excess skin (and fat in some cases), resulting in smoother skin and better proportioned contours of the thighs and lower body.
Thigh Lift Operation and Recovery
General anesthesia is administered for your comfort during the surgical procedure. Incisions are made in order to remove the excess skin and fat. Advanced techniques are used in order to allow the incisions to be placed in strategic locations where they can be hidden by most clothing. One common technique used for a thigh lift places incisions in the groin, extending downward wrapping the back of the thigh. The underlying tissue matrix will be reshaped and tightened, resulting in more proportionate body contours. Depending on the extent of work needed, the surgery is sometimes performed in different stages.
After the procedure is complete, dressing is applied to the incisions and you may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or compression garment. This type of bandage will minimize swelling and support your new shape as you heal.
Bruising and swelling after surgery is normal, and usually reaches it’s peak around three weeks after surgery. The more active you are the more bruising and swelling you can expect. Dr. Hirschfeld will provide you with specific instructions for post-operative care in order to ensure optimal results.
