About the Breast Reduction Surgery
General anesthesia is administered for your comfort during the breast reduction procedure. Incisions are made in order to remove the excess skin, glandular tissue and fat. Dr. Hirschfeld uses advanced surgical techniques in order to strategically place incisions in locations to minimize scarring and visibility. In some cases, excess fat may be removed through liposuction, in addition to excision techniques. If breast size is primarily due to fatty tissue and excess skin is not a factor, liposuction alone may be used for breast reduction. Dr. Hirschfeld will take breast composition, desired size and personal preferences into consideration in order to recommend the best surgical choice for you.
After the breast reduction surgery, a special dressing is applied to the incisions. You are then wrapped in an elastic bandage and support bra in order to minimize swelling and support your breasts as they heal. Bruising and swelling should be expected after the surgery, but will subside over time.
Breast Reduction Recovery
It is important that the surgical incisions are not subjected to excessive force or motion for three to six weeks after surgery. Dr. Hirschfeld will give you specific instructions on your post operative care. The results of your breast reduction will be immediately visible, and will improve in appearance as they heal.
